A-HA!!!!!!!!!! I figured out WHY it works for Tony and yet I can reproduce Bo's problem myself. Note Tony's command vs. mine and Bo's: Tony: cvs -d d:/repo export -r HEAD -d foo -N develop/include cvs Me: cvs -d :pserver:gstarret at stanley:/home/cvsroot export -r HEAD -d useme2 -N cool/images Bo: cvs export -r HEAD -d WSMDB-CS -N Drivers/sentinel Tony is using local protocol, vs. pserver for me and ??? For Bo. I ran this on my cvsnt 2.0.8 Linux server as verification: [gstarret at stanley junk]$ cvs -d /home/cvsroot export -r HEAD -d useme1 cool/images cvs export: Updating useme1 U useme1/cr_logo_hi_contr.gif [gstarret at stanley junk]$ cvs -d /home/cvsroot export -r HEAD -d useme2 -N cool/images cvs export: Updating useme2/cool/images U useme2/cool/images/cr_logo_hi_contr.gif [gstarret at stanley junk]$ cvs -d :pserver:gstarret at stanley:/home/cvsroot login Logging in to :pserver:gstarret at stanley:2401:/home/cvsroot CVS password: [gstarret at stanley junk]$ cvs -d :pserver:gstarret at stanley:/home/cvsroot export -r HEAD -d useme3 cool/images cvs export: Updating useme3 U useme3/cr_logo_hi_contr.gif [gstarret at stanley junk]$ cvs -d :pserver:gstarret at stanley:/home/cvsroot export -r HEAD -d useme4 -N cool/images cvs export: Updating useme4 U useme4/cr_logo_hi_contr.gif Case 1: Local, no -N, is as epected Case 2: Local, -N, works properly Case 3: pserver, no -N, is as epected Case 4: pserver, -N, is broken --> The problem is in the protocol or the client/server communication and is NOT a problem in local mode.
