It's just that always we hear of people using cvs in local mode and thereby getting all kinds of problems that the cvs server running in client/server mode will handle. For example, will the lockserver service be used when a client just scoffs off its commands using the cvs.exe directly? I don't think so, but I might be wrong. Safest bet is to leave :local: alone in my view. But I am in no way an expert in how cvs actually works internally, I just read all the posts and remember most of them. /Bo -----Original Message----- From: Oliver Giesen [mailto:ogware at gmx.net] Sent: den 28 augusti 2003 15:48 To: cvsnt at cvsnt.org cvsnt downloads at march-hare.com @CVSNT on Twitter CVSNT on Facebook Subject: Re: [cvsnt] Is usage of cvs.exe (as client) discouraged atthehostwhere the repository lives? While I don't see any harm in following your advice, I also couldn't quite follow your strong reservation against :local: mode when it is used in a truly local fashion and especially when it is used read-only as in this case. As I said before, as far as I understood it :local: is what will ultimately be used to access the repository anyway. The only difference being that the cvs.exe will run with cmd.exe as parent process instead of cvsservice.exe. Or am I missing something important?
