Thanks for the advices mates! I have installed the CVSNT and wincvs. Works just fine. Wanted something that could work with a browser and port 80. Will give ViewCvs a try then. Tried hard to get CVSWEBNT to work with IIS (I normally don't use the IIS but wanted to find out more about it). It doesn't. Are you running your stuff with Apache or IIS? Both work OK though. CvsWeb use Perl and ViewCvs uses Python. We use CVSNT server and WinCvs clients and I have also integrated email messaging with CVSNT that produces emails with module, file and diff links for the committed files and this uses the ViewCvs/CvsWeb to display the data. Rather neat and easy to use. /Bo -----Original Message----- From: Ian Epperson [mailto:Ian at axiomdesign.com] Sent: den 31 januari 2003 18:30 To: 'Benni Stefanutti'; cvsnt at cvsnt.org Subject: RE: [cvsnt] CVSNT installation on an NT web server We played around with CvsWebNT, and had problems with it - hard to configure and crashed too frequently. IIRC, it doesn't seem to be well maintained. ViewCVS on the other hand, was fairly easy to setup and configure and hasn't given us any problems. Note that neither of these projects can function as the "one and only gui" because they are view (or download) ONLY. Neither allows you to commit changes, add files or add modules. We use ViewCVS for browsing, but the real work is in the CVS client - TortoiseCVS. It's a wonderful product that integrates into the windows explorer. It allows general users to right-click their way to CVS happiness! Without tortoise, we wouldn't be using CVS. __________ I should have known better than to trust the logic of a half-sized thermocapsulary dehousing assister... -----Original Message----- From: Benni Stefanutti [mailto:benni at rsq.se] Sent: Friday, January 31, 2003 3:01 AM To: cvsnt at cvsnt.org Subject: Re: [cvsnt] CVSNT installation on an NT web server Hi! Has anyone compared ViewCvs and CvsWebNT in practice? Which one do oyu prefer if you intend to use it as the one and only gui used by project members managing source code and other files? Software installed? cannot access? The CVS is empty? These statements are somewhat strange..... Seriously, CVSNT is installed on a Windows NT type machine (NT4, W2000 or XP-Pro). If that same PC also has a web service running (Microsoft Internet Information Services) is completely irrelevant to the CVSNT installation, they have nothing in common. If you want to add the *extra* possibility to enable users to browse through the CVS files using a web browser, then you must instell extra software for this on the same server. What you need is ViewCvs for Windows, RCS57 and Python 2.2 or CvsWeb for Windows, RCS57 and PERL. Then you also need to configure these items correctly. They will access the CVS repository and publish its contents in a web adapted way. /Bo -----Original Message----- From: Amin, Siddarth [mailto:samin5 at nemak.com] Sent: den 30 januari 2003 15:38 To: cvsnt at cvsnt.org Subject: [cvsnt] CVSNT installation on an NT web server I was wondering if anyone here couuld give me a few tips on setting up CVSNT on Wndows NT webserver. I have the software installed and is running fine but I cant access it through any networkcomputer even though I have permissions (user group assigned to it). The CVS is empty now but want to find out more about the root directory within the repository. If anyone could help me with this one, I would really appreciate it.
