[cvsnt] cvs [server aborted]: Couldn't connect to lock server

I used a software called WinsockxpFix.exe (available at
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html among others) to reset the
Winsock settings that had been corrupted by other software. This seems to
have solved my problem. 

Please let the community if it fixes yours as well.
