Most of the issues in the FAQ are the user's problem, not a concern of the application developers. > and then there's this: > > http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=826482 > > ... which is only dated a week ago - and it's not the first bug of its > kind either. It was revised a week ago but the hotfix is a year old. Sure these bugs happen - caveat emptor he who uses network shares. But again that's my choice. I've been running my current setup with all my main company and personal files accessed via a share, used in offline mode for over three years. I even use multiple computers syncing with that same main file serverI have never had a problem with file corruption in that time. (Ditto for using CVS via NFS on a host of linux systems in the same time frame.) But this really isn't about the pros and cons of network shares, it is a specific issue related to a windows share in offline mode. It seems apparent from other bug reports (eg. Visio in MS knowledgebase) that performing file I/O on a network share in offline mode, behaves differently to online mode. David Holmes
