How big is your "entire repository"? I would suspect that problems arise due to the initial checking of the file states if you are indeed checking out the entire repository. If I would do that I could go home overnight before the 148.000 files had been checked and transferred. Some of our files are also very large binaries with many revisions in CVS so the extraction would take a long time. I don't think that checking out the entire repository like so: cvs -d :sspi:cvsserver:/repository co . is a valid performance check. I really don't think this should be allowed even... /Bo -----Original Message----- From: cvsnt-bounces at cvsnt.org [mailto:cvsnt-bounces at cvsnt.org]On Behalf Of Stéphane Nicoll Sent: den 23 februari 2005 11:30 To: cvsnt at cvsnt.org cvsnt downloads at march-hare.com @CVSNT on Twitter CVSNT on Facebook Subject: RE: [cvsnt] performence problem Hello, I am still *very* confused. I made more tests today, please comment if you have ideas. At the same time, I am doing the following operations: 1/ Checkout of the entire repository on the server itself using a CVSROOT like that :pserver:sni at localhost:/ourRepo 2/ Update of the repository on my local box using command cvs update -dP % Idle time of both disks (repository and CVSNT temp session) is almost 80% Result: 1/ Checkout is *very slow* (WTF, idle time is high, what could be the problem? Not network, I am using localhost) 2/ I had to wait almost 5mins before seing anything printed on my console Any idea? We stopped the service, we're using McAffe. When it was enabled, both disks idle time was good (checkout very slow). When we stopped it, the disk idle time containing CVSNT temp sessions drops to 0! I'll do that and I'll let you know.
