The reboot might or might not be needed, it depends on which software is using the path. For example: - Set System path in control panel - Start a program that needs this path This works fine without reboot. But this does not: - Set System path in control panel - Use a service function that needs the path Now there is a problem that the service in all likelyhood was started before the path change and since the processes get a copy of the environment when they start it does not know of the new path.... Of course stopping and then starting the service (or services) might help here, but often one does not clearly know the dependencies and so it is "easier" to just restart the whole server.... This is also true for CVSNT, I believe. But only the first time it is installed updates go to the same directory which is already on the path so they are OK. /Bo -----Original Message----- From: John Cole [mailto:john.cole at uai.com] Sent: den 13 juni 2005 15:38 To: Bo Berglund; Jari Ahonen; cvsnt at cvsnt.org cvsnt downloads at march-hare.com @CVSNT on Twitter CVSNT on Facebook Subject: RE: [cvsnt] Re: Building on Cygwin... Bo, There is another way to get that to stick without the reboot. Open your system path from the system control panel and just hit ok on it, that seems to apply it without needing the reboot (at least on XP). Of course there could be other reasons for a reboot. John -----Original Message----- That is why it "works out of the box" (but after a restart because of the change in the system path variable). ------------------------------------- This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed.
