Actually, if the username/password I'm logged on with locally happens to be
the same as a valid username/password on the CVS server, it works fine
(normally) without specifying username or logging in. And anyway, whether I
specify username or not has no influence on this problem.

What could that be, when it doesn't affect all connections, or even all
connections from some clients??

I will try to downgrade the server to 2.0.58 to see if that solves the
problem (it should, the problem first occurred after I upgraded the server).
