[cvsnt] cvs [server aborted]: could not find desired version

Hi All,

We have been creating branches and merging them with the HEAD time and
again, (following the flying fish pattern). We have over 25 branches in our
application right now. We had created a branch
PECore-PECore_4_4_1_006_Communicator_Core_Bugfix, and everyone was working
on it. A newbie just joined the project and when was asked to checkout the
project, hit some wrong button on WinCVS and recreated the same branch again
(that’s what we assume happened!), 

Now when we try to checkout using that branch, we get the following error
message

The server reported an error while performing the "cvs checkout" command.
(took 30:00.673)

   Error: : cvs [server aborted]: could not find desired version e.sql in
/hbs/PECore/database/Attic/ftbt.sql,v

Any clue how can we fix this problem, we don’t know how many files got
affected from the same, we have a backup that can be restored and reverted
back to the original code, but that is 3-4 days old.. so there is again an
issue of version data being lost in between..
