The official "best practicies" by the CVSNT authors is this: http://march-hare.com/cvsnt/features/book/ "Pragmatic Version Control" and "Essential CVS" are both great books but only cover the "Unreserved Distributed" methodology and only CVS (no CVSNT features). Modern SCM best practice makes defect tracking integration essential which is why CVSNT supports bug numbers and grouping edit's, commits and merges by bug number.
