Don't even breath VPC and VMWare in the smae sentence. Nght and day differences. Could your guys have misconfigured things? You're debuggng their work not exactly the fairest thing (for them) to do to you. VMWare s not likely the cause of the problem and VPC will most DEFNTELY give you more. -----Original Message----- From: Bo Berglund <bo.berglund at telia.com> Date: Monday, Oct 30, 2006 1:52 pm Subject: Re: [cvsnt] Strange behaviour of cvs status on a VMWare server... I even tried both VMWare & Virtual PC. Well, it's not like I was involved in the server transfer.... It was all done by the IT department when they were "cleaning up" in our server room. They have moved to VMWare Infrastructure 3 in order to stop being hardware dependent, I believe. My old W2000 server that ran CVSNT was from Jan 2001 and the hardware could not be maintained anymore. They have used the Ghost trick for all 9 so far migrated servers apparently without issues. The alternative is to install a new Win2003 server and then I will have to install all of the applications that I had on that server (CVSNT, ViewCvs, CVSMailer, Roundup Issue Tracker etc) The real beast here is to migrate Roundup without losing our database (there are Python bindings to consider for example). Of course it could be done, but it would be a lot of work (for me), whereas giving me back my old hardware CVSNT server will be less of a problem (just moving back the repositories and Roundup database). But as things are now I am still stuck with this crippled VMWare solution.... And concerning Ghost, I have myself moved our software test images from a hardware PC where we ghosted up various clean machines for test. I moved them to VPC2004 VM:s instead and it worked really good. The hardware issues were taken care of by plug-n-play whilst starting up for the first time.
