Yes it has, trust me. That's the entire meaning of the error. Playing around with the client cvsroot has nothing to do with this error - you merely fixed the error on the server at the same time as trying different roots. In future the error will be fatal as not having the default processing causes other side effects that aren't always obvious - so although things work it is really something that needs dealing with early on.
